On February 27th, 2024, Debbie Matenopoulos proudly stood before the Consul General's Office in Los Angeles to receive her Greek Passport. Matenopoulos recounted how the journey began with the persistent encouragement of a wise friend, navigating through countless twists and turns, and enduring delays that stretched over years.

"It means I am honoring my Greek heritage and all of the little immigrant Greek girls that came before me," Matenopoulos continued. "It means that now my daughter, if she so wishes, can also become a Greek citizen and with her Greek passport live and work freely anywhere in the European Union during her lifetime."

"It means that finally once and for all, both of the countries that I love so much and consider my homes both know I exist!!
